Police: Stabbing victim drives to get help, crashes car

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A homeless man is in the New Hanover County jail charged with stabbing someone who then got into a car crash Tuesday night in Carolina Beach.

Carolina Beach Police said the victim was doing maintenance on a washing machine at Melissa’s Laundromat on Lake Park Boulevard when Watson D. Taylor, 20, came up behind him, stabbed him, and then ran. The victim told police that he tried to drive to the laundromat owner’s house to get help, but he ended up getting into a crash in the 600 block of Columbia Avenue at 11:45 p.m., instead.

When police responded to the crash scene, they said the victim told them what happened prior.  They said they were able to find and arrest Taylor in the 700 block of Spartanburg Avenue. Taylor is behind bars under a $400,000 bond, and facing several charges including attempted armed robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill inflicting serious bodily injury. Police said Taylor, who is homeless, admitted to trying to rob the victim.

Police said the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening. He was treated and released from the New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
