Police: Victims kidnapped while pumping gas, robbed at gunpoint

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are investigating after they say an armed duo kidnapped and robbed two people pumping gas in downtown Wilmington just before dark last night.

Wilmington Police say it happened at 4:40 p.m. at the Shell gas station at 502 N. 3rd Street. That’s where officers say the victim was pumping gas with a passenger in the car when two men approached them at the pump.

Police say one of the suspects pointed a gun at the victim using the pump, forcing them back into the car, while the second suspect got into the car with the other victim. Officers say the duo demanded the victims to drive to a bank on Randall Parkway, where they withdrew money.

After the robbers got an unknown amount of cash, police say the duo ordered the victims to drive to an area behind New Hanover High School, where the suspects got out of the car and took off running. Officers say they discovered that a handgun was stolen from inside the victim’s car.

Police say the two victims then drove to Toys-R-Us on Oleander Drive to call police. WPD is still investigating the crime.
