Police: Woman ejected from stolen car during crash overnight

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police say a Wilmington woman is in the hospital after she was ejected from the stolen car she was driving while impaired.

Wilmington Police say just after 1:30 a.m., officers were getting information on reports of a vehicle stolen from the Creekwood area. Investigators then found out other officers had located the vehicle, but that the driver wasn’t stopping.

After a short chase, police say they learned the car crashed into another vehicle near 10th and Market streets but the woman didn’t stop. Near 10th and Dock streets, the woman hit some poles, flipped the car and was ejected. Police say while they were at the scene of the crash, officers heard shots fired about a block away. They say they investigated, but found nothing at the scene there.

The woman has been identified as Lateshia Wallace. Officers say Wallace will face several charges once she is released from the hospital.
