Pool company owner appears in court over unfinished projects

BURGAW, NC (WWAY)– We have an update on a Pender County pool contractor who allegedly took payments for projects and leaving them unfinished.

Christian Villa, owner of Sunrise Pool Inc., appeared in court Wednesday at the Pender County Courthouse.

Authorities say Villa accepted more than $42,000 from a homeowner for a pool project that was never completed. Court documents allege Villa stopped communicating with the homeowner after offering a full refund that was never provided.

Meredith Todaro says she is one of several homeowners left with unfinished pools. She claims Villa not only failed to complete the project but also caused damage to her property.

“He owes us items that we paid for under the contract. He hasn’t finished our permit, and there are issues with the electrical bonding that have not been completed. He also destroyed our fence during the process for various reasons, including piling excavated dirt around the property and leaving it there for months, which caused the fence to lean. Equipment also hit the fence during construction,” Todaro said.

We caught up with Villa outside the courthouse today. He declined for an on-camera interview but provided a statement that reads in part.

“Today is a step in the right direction. I look forward to the opportunity to present the full picture and clear my name.”
