Prescribed burn planned for Moores Creek National Battlefield
Pender County, NC (WWAY) — If you see smoke around Currie later this week, it could be a controlled burn.
According to a news release from the National Park Service, the burn at Moores Creek National Battlefield is tentatively planned for Thursday and Friday.
The area being burned is the savanna burn unit, which contains floristic species that thrive in fire conditions which can only be replicated through controlled burns.
The planned burn will also get rid of underbrush and rid the area of invasive species.
The National Park Service says they don’t expect any roads to be closed, but to plan on delays when driving on Highway 210 around the area of the battlefield.
EMS staff will be there, along with a fire crew. The burn should only last a few hours, weather permitting.
