Prescribed burn scheduled at GE Wilmington site
**This has been postponed until Friday due to weather conditions.**
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina Forest Service is scheduled to conduct and manage a prescribed burn Thursday on a remote portion of the GE Wilmington site.
Prescribed burning is a critical management tool that benefits forests, wildlife and the environment. Depending on the wind direction, residents near the site may notice smoke while the prescribed burn is taking place.
The GE Wilmington property, off Castle Hayne Rd., is forest stewardship certified by the North Carolina Forest Service. This certification reinforces the company’s commitment to the maintenance and enhancement of the forest on the 1,600 acre site.
