Principal notifies parents after Codington student dies

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – Codington Elementary School parents received an automated call this afternoon from Principal Eric Pfirman, alerting them that a 2nd grade student had died.

The principal said the student died yesterday, but no details were released.

According to posts on social media, the child has been identified as Harper Adams, who died after the onset of a sudden illness.

Parents were told that counselors were at the school available for students and that all second graders were told about the student’s death.

Parents of children in other grade levels were told it was up to their discretion as to what they wanted to tell their children.

New Hanover County Schools Spokeswoman Valita Quattlebaum released a statement. “All of us here at NHCS are deeply saddened by the student’s death,” it reads.
