Rand Paul in NC to help Tillis
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul says there are many libertarian values that North Carolina Senate candidate Thom Tillis represents that should attract many like-minded people to vote for him over Democrat Kay Hagan this fall.
The potential 2016 presidential candidate worked the crowd at a Raleigh restaurant Wednesday as part of a two-day swing through the Carolinas. He also attended a Tillis fundraiser before heading to Greenville to help U.S. Rep. Walter Jones.
Paul had endorsed Tillis rival Greg Brannon in the Republican Senate primary that Tillis won but is now backing the state House speaker. Some tea party members who liked Brannon are considering whether to support Libertarian Party candidate Sean Haugh or a write-in.
Tillis praised Paul as an “independent thinker” and said he is glad for Paul’s support.
