Real ice skating rink coming to Carolina Beach Boardwalk for holiday season

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A new holiday attraction is coming to Carolina Beach, bringing real ice skating to the boardwalk this winter.

The Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce announced Friday that its new Boardwalk on Ice experience will feature an 88-foot rink with real ice, along with seasonal vendors and opportunities to support local businesses.

The rink is scheduled to open on Black Friday, Nov. 27, and remain open through Sunday, Jan. 3, 2027.

According to the chamber, daily operations will begin at 3 p.m., with Mondays and Tuesdays reserved for special programming and private events.

The attraction is designed to transform the Carolina Beach Boardwalk into a winter destination, giving families and visitors an opportunity to skate near the Atlantic Ocean.

Organizers say the event is also intended to bring more visitors to Carolina Beach during the traditionally slower winter months.

Jim DeGilio, executive director of the Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce, said the rink and accompanying vendors “will help bring more activity to local businesses”.

The chamber also said it has held preliminary discussions about potentially bringing a Stanley Cup replica associated with the Carolina Hurricanes to Carolina Beach. No appearance has been confirmed.

In addition to ice skating, visitors will be able to explore seasonal vendors and nearby businesses throughout the holiday season.
