‘Really tragic;’ Neighbors shocked after murder-suicide at Sanderling Place home

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY-TV) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office has released the identities of two people involved in a deadly shooting at a Wilmington Home. An 86-year-old woman was found dead inside the home while an 87-year-old man was found critically injured in the backyard.

Deputies responded to the scene in the 7800 block of Sanderling Place after a 911 phone call. The shooting is being investigated as a murder and attempted suicide. The two victims have been identified as Linda Anderson and Jack Anderson.

When deputies arrived at the scene around 8 p.m. Tuesday night, Linda was found dead inside the home and Jack was located in the backyard suffering from a gunshot wound.

Joe McCaul has lived in the neighborhood since 1999 and said while he does not know Linda or Jack, it is shocking that this happened in his neighborhood.

“It kind of hit home because it’s so close, I’m like 200 yards from here,” McCaul said. “This is just such a quiet nice neighborhood and it is so friendly, everybody gets along, it’s really tragic.”

Jack was taken to Novant health New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he remains in critical condition. The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains ongoing.
