Riegelwood man accused of firing shots at repo agents

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Riegelwood man faces several charges after a shooting Thursday morning.

It happened shortly before 6:00 a.m. in the 900 block of Browntown Road in Riegelwood.

The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office said Daniel Merenda and Amanda Hoch, both of Wilmington, reported they were attempting to repossess a vehicle when Ronald Keaton shot at them.

Keaton allegedly threatened Merenda, telling him he would ‘blow his brains out’.

The sheriff’s office said they received word on where Keaton was. Deputies responded to that area and found Keaton. While searching his vehicle, investigators found a green leafy substance, cocaine, and a digital scale. Keaton also had an outstanding warrant from New Hanover County.

He is charged with two counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling/moving vehicle, plus numerous drug charges. Keaton is being held in the Columbus County Jail.
