‘Rise for Teachers’ benefit concert to support New Hanover County educators and students

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A group of Wilmington-area musicians is using the stage to help local teachers stock their classrooms.

The “Rise for Teachers” benefit concert is set for Labor Day at Eagles Dare, with proceeds and donated school supplies going toward educators and students in New Hanover County.

The event will benefit the New Hanover County Association of Educators (NHCAE) and collect classroom necessities that teachers frequently need.

Tickets cost $10 at the door.

That price drops to $5 for anyone who brings a school supply donation.

People who want to donate but cannot attend the concert can also drop off supplies at three Wilmington businesses:

Gravity Records on Castle Street, Guitar Pickers on South Kerr Avenue, and Music Go Round on Shipyard Boulevard. All of these businesses are located in Wilmington.

The Labor Day concert will feature performances from several local acts, including Josh Petty and friends, Rocket 77, Overton, Emergency Nothing and Austin Glover.

Organizers say the goal is to bring the community together while helping teachers and students begin the school year with the resources they need.

The event begins at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7, at Eagles Dare.
