Riverwalk project to see 1st phase completed by the end of April
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick Riverwalk at Belville is well on its way to getting a makeover.
Officials said phase one of the project is set to be finished by the end of April.
“Our vision for the park is to create an environmentally oriented, educational, recreational and historical facility for future generations,” said Belville commissioner Joe Breault.
That phase includes a new walkway and a fountain at a cost of 400 thousand dollars. The town said only half that amount has come out of their budget. Eventually, retail space, a restaurant, and a farmer’s market are included in plans for future projects. Breault said those amenities will provide revenue for the park’s grounds.
“What we want to do is to ensure the park can be self-sustaining, we don’t want to have the park become a burden on the taxpayers,” Breault said.
Resident Christine Lussier said the Riverwalk is already a favorite spot for her.
“I like it because it’s just always beautiful and clean, the dogs are welcome here, and there’s something for everybody here,” Lussier.
Breault said all phases of the park are expected to be completed in the next 3-5 years. The town of Belville will hold a grand opening for phase one of the park on May 7.
