Robot finds no bomb in package at NC courthouse
GOLDSBORO, NC (AP) — A suspicious package left outside a North Carolina courthouse and jail that were evacuated as a precaution was not a bomb.
Wayne County Sheriff Carey Winders said Monday an Air Force bomb squad robot tore into a suspicious package left outside an entrance to the Goldsboro building that houses the courts, county offices, and the jail.
Winders says the package was made to look like a bomb and is being checked for evidence that could point to who was behind it.
The sheriff says some of the jail’s more than 200 inmates were moved to a section protected by a thick wall and hundreds of people who work in the county buildings were prevented from entering.
Winders says neighboring Seymour Johnson Air Force Base provided its bomb squad.
