“Rock the River” benefit concert raises money for Cape Fear River Watch

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A new concert series is helping make waves for the Cape Fear River.

The first-ever “Rock the River” benefit concert brought together live music, local vendors and community members Sunday at Waterline Brewing in support of Cape Fear River Watch.

Dozens of attendees gathered throughout the day for music, drinks and local art as the event ran from noon to 8 p.m. Guests could purchase tickets for $15 to watch six local bands perform.

The event was organized by Cape Fear River Watch summer intern Maya Cruz, who said proceeds from ticket sales will help support the organization’s mission to protect and improve water quality in the Cape Fear River.

“All the benefit goes to Cape Fear River Watch so we can do more water quality testing and be active in our community and the river basin,” Cruz said.

Cape Fear River Watch works to protect the Cape Fear River through advocacy, education and water quality monitoring efforts.

Organizers said the event is a way to bring people together while supporting the future of the river.

Goldielux, Sea Graves, Kicking Bird, Tercel, Masonboro Sound and American Chestnut were among the local bands featured during the event.
