SCC to host SummerFEST 2026 celebrating America’s 250th birthday

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Southeastern Community College is inviting the community to kick off summer with a patriotic celebration as it hosts SummerFEST 2026 on Thursday, June 25.
The free, family-friendly event will take place from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. on the SCC front lawn and will celebrate America’s 250th birthday while highlighting local businesses, organizations and educational opportunities.
“We are celebrating America’s 250th, and we’re getting everyone excited about summer,” said Dr. Chris English, SCC president. “This is your traditional American theme with the Fourth of July coming up soon afterwards. It’s going to be a great evening, and I’m looking forward to it.”
SummerFEST will feature a carnival-style atmosphere with food trucks, inflatables, lawn games, craft vendors and free face painting for children.
Colene Faulk, Dean of Student Services, said the event is designed to bring together families, students and community members while commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
Along with summer fun, SCC plans to spotlight its academic and workforce programs. An information table will provide details about opportunities available during the upcoming fall semester.
The evening will conclude with an outdoor screening of National Treasure beginning at 8:30 p.m.
Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the movie and festivities.
SummerFEST is free and open to the public.
