Scene First: Inaugural student film festival starts in Wilmington
WILMINGTON (AP) — An all-student film festival is set to open today in Wilmington.
The inaugural Scene First has commitments from several Hollywood producers and directors and the support of industry professionals such as Screen Gems Studios president Frank Capra Junior.
Organizers hope to turn the three-day festival into the country's dominant showcase of young talent.
Capra, who is a judge and the festival's honorary chairman, says the festival's nine categories provide exposure that young filmmakers might not get at other festivals that have only a student category.
The festival is open to students in grade nine through college. One hundred films will be screened at Scene First.
