CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A popular Carolina Beach restaurant is preparing to temporarily close as the property is redeveloped for a future hotel.

SeaWitch Tiki Bar held a community event Wednesday, Sept. 31,  featuring music, food and drinks while also celebrating the mural on the side of the building.

The mural, titled “Record Weekend,” was created by Charlotte artist Sharon Dowell. It will be removed when the building is demolished as part of the re-development.

Carolina Beach Mayor Lynn Barbee said SeaWitch has become an important part of the community and will be missed during the construction period.

“They’re going to go through a construction phase when this building gets torn down until the new one gets built,” Barbee said. “And there’s going to be a gap in our lives until they get rebuilt.”

SeaWitch is expected to return after the redevelopment is completed.
