See ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ on stage and screen

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A beloved Christmas cartoon comes to life this weekend. You can catch the original 1965 animated classic “A Charlie Brown Christmas” on stage at Cape Fear Community College.

Jack landry, CFCC’s lead drama instructor, stopped by our studios this morning to tell us how he was able to turn the entire 28-minute cartoon into a stage play.

“This is a 1965 animation, so it’s very kind of primitive, so in a weird way I think it makes it easier, but it’s very kind of South Park-esque. It’s bad, if that make sense,” Landry said. “So it was fun for the actors, and it kind of gives it a really fun quality. It’s a lot of fun.”

The play is Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m at CFCC’s auditorium downtown. Admission is five dollars. Get a dollar off if you bring a canned good.

If you can’t make the play, the original cartoon version of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” airs right here on WWAY Tuesday at 8 p.m.
