Brunswick County seniors take a walk through their past

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — High school graduation is just a few weeks away. But before students in Brunswick County turn their tassels, they stopped by the halls of where their journey began.

North Brunswick High School kicked off the Brunswick County school’s 2nd annual Senior Walk Thursday afternoon. Dozens of seniors, including Rebecca Lindsey, visited students at Belville Elementary.

“It’s very rewarding to see all the little kids. You know, their eyes like lit up when they saw us,” Lindsey said.

All of the seniors were dressed in their caps and gowns as they walked the halls revisiting their past in hopes of inspiring the future generations like 5th grader, Jacob Harms.

“Well I just see them walking down the hall. Just getting ready for college. And it makes me want to also,” Harms said.

The purpose of the event is to inspire kids to stay in school while showing them they too can have a future.

“A lot of kids like don’t think it’s cool,” Lindsey said. “Ya know, it’s cool to drop out and stuff so it’s nice that younger kids can see that it is cool to graduate. And that we are successful and they can be successful too.”

The event is part of the school system’s celebrating what’s right initiative. Something seniors like Lindsey are proud to be apart of.

“It’s awarding for the next generation to motivate them to be the future of America. Because that’s what they are. Ya know, we’re all the future of America. So we need to instill in the kids the same dedication and motivation to graduate,” Lindsey said.

Aside from Belville Elementary, North Brunswick seniors also stopped by Lincoln Elementary, Town Creek Elementary and Leland Middle throughout the day.

Friday South and West Brunswick High School seniors will be hitting the halls of various schools in the area. Followed by Early College High School and Brunswick County Academy seniors on Monday.
