Investigators look for potential victims after sex offender charged with 50 child sex crimes
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Burgaw man released from prison in August after serving nearly three years for indecent liberties with a minor is back in jail.
Cheyne Martin Potrafka, 37, was arrested today after a joint investigation with probation officers with the NC Department of Public Safety and special agents with the State Bureau of Investigation.
The Pender County Sheriff’s Office says Potrafka was being monitored by probation officers in Pender County when child pornography was discovered on computers he used. He is now charged with 50 counts of second degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
Before Potrafka was arrested in 2013 on indecent liberties charges, he advertised his babysitting services on the childcare website Care.com as “a good male role model with child care and medical background looking for babysitting or full-time ‘Manny’ work.”
His profile also said, “I realize that your child is the most precious thing in the world and I assure you that I will not fail the trust you place in me by allowing me to care for him/her/them when you can ‘t be there.”
The Sheriff’s Office is asking for help regarding possible child victims of Potrafka. If you have any information, call Det. Sgt. Steve Clinard at (910) 259-1437 or (910) 259-1212.
