Sex offender wanted in KY arrested in Duplin Co.

DUPLIN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — U.S. Marshals have arrested a man in Duplin County accused in a child rape investigation in Kentucky.

Marshals say Edward Woodard, 35, was arrested yesterday at approximately 2:30 p.m. at a home in the 900 block of Highway 111 S. in Chinquapin. Investigators say Woodard fled the Kentucky and Tennessee areas after warrants were issued for his arrest on September 3 by the Jefferson County, KY Circuit Court.

Woodard’s charges include 1st degree sodomy, 1st degree rape of a child, sexual abuse of a child under 12 years of age and distributing obscene matter to a minor. Woodard is a convicted sex-offender with convictions in the state of Florida from 1993 and is currently a registered sex-offender in TN.

On Tuesday, Marshals say they found Woodard hiding in the back bedroom of a family member’s home in which several young children were present.

Woodard is being held in Duplin County until he is extradited back to Jefferson County, KY.
