‘Shine Your Light’ talent show raises money for families of people with disabilities

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Performers took center stage Saturday for the annual “Shine Your Light” Talent Show, an event that celebrates the talents of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities while raising money for a meaningful cause.

Held at Freedom Baptist Church, the talent show featured participants showcasing their abilities through dancing, poetry, singing and other performances.

Proceeds from the event will help provide Christmas gifts for families who have loved ones with disabilities.

Organizer Pat Wiegand said the event’s success is driven by the performers and their families, who courageously share their talents with the community each year.

“I get a little emotional because they give me a lot of credit, but it’s really them,” Wiegand said. “I make some phone calls, I write up some stuff, I push it a little bit, I advertise it, but it’s really what they do. They come to hear these guys.”

WWAY’s Tomika Jackson also served as the event’s emcee, helping celebrate the performers and their accomplishments throughout the show.
