Silver Pride Cinema Festival returns to Wilmington for second year

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– Lights, camera, celebration. The Silver Pride Cinema Festival is back in Wilmington this weekend, bringing LGBTQ+ stories and community members together for a second year.

Cucalorus and the Silver Pride Circle of the Cape Fear have teamed up once again to host the festival, which features films from around the world highlighting LGBTQ+ experiences and voices.

The festival kicked off tonight with a screening of “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.” Guests walked the red carpet before enjoying the film, along with food, drinks, and opportunities to connect with others in the community.

Organizers say the festival is about more than movies — it’s about creating a welcoming space for people of all ages to come together and celebrate diverse stories.

“It’s just really meaningful to get around. And as a queer person, you get so few opportunities to meet older queer people,” said attendant Tasha Schiffres. “It just warms my heart to see there are folks that are still kicking it, still beautiful.”

The festival continues tomorrow with four film screenings starting at 10 a.m.
