Skip’s Tire founder remembered for giving back to the community

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — A familiar face in the Cape Fear community is being remembered for his impact on local businesses, customers, and families.

Edward “Skip” Wittkofsky, the owner and founder of Skip’s Tire Center on Village Road in Leland, recently died.

Wittkofsky built a career in the automotive industry that included working with country music star Randy Travis and contributing to the film “Ride Along.” But his family says his greatest passion was helping others.

Through his Dare to Care Children’s Foundation, Wittkofsky gave back to the community he loved. His family says he had a big heart, always put others first, and treated every customer who walked through his doors like family.

“He definitely treasured his customers the same way that he treasured his friends and family because, at the end of the day, his customers would become his friends. He was such an amazing man, and he’s going to be missed not by only his friends and family but just the community in general,” said Skip’s granddaughter Laynie Wittkofsky.

His family says Wittkofsky’s legacy of giving back will continue through the Dare to Care Children’s Foundation.

They are also planning a car show in his honor to support the foundation’s work and continue his commitment to helping others in the community.
