Smithfield Foods donates $100K to the local food bank
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — 100,000 congratulations are in store for the Wilmington community.
Smithfield Foods donated $100,000 to the Wilmington branch of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, which serves over 70,000 people.
After 38 years of serving, the food bank still works to its mission of making sure no one goes hungry.
“Our main expectation around the giving is that they simply expand their reach,” said Smithfield Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs Keira Lombardo. “…our hope is that they can use this funding to expand and help more people. ”
Lombardo says Wilmington is home to many Smithfield employees.
This was a big step for Smithfield Foods to kick off Hunger Action Month.
