South Columbus football earns walk-off overtime win over West Brunswick, 22-21
COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. (WWAY) — South Columbus came away with a dramatic 22-21 overtime win over West Brunswick on Friday night. The Stallions struck first when Gentry Thompson scored on a 2-yard touchdown run to put South Columbus up 7-0.
South Columbus added to the lead when Jaxon Green found the end zone on fourth down, making it 14-0. West Brunswick answered with a big play from Motashi Lance, who broke free for a 49-yard touchdown to cut the deficit to 14-7.
The game was eventually tied and headed to overtime, where West Brunswick struck first. Marzell Stanley scored on a carry to give the Trojans a 21-14 lead.
South Columbus answered with Thompson scoring another rushing touchdown. The Stallions then went for two, and Thompson converted to secure the 22-21 walk-off win.
It capped off a big night for Thompson and gave South Columbus the overtime victory.
