Southeast Regional Science and Engineering Fair
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — More than 200 science and engineering projects filled the New Hanover hall gym Saturday, Feb 8th.
Third through 12th grade students competed for cash prizes and awards.
Topics ranged from "effects of soda on teeth," to projects like E. A. Laney High School senior Brittany Williams' study on hydrogen fuel cells.
Williams has competed in science fairs all the way up to the international level. She says events like these are so important in the lives of students. "We're the next generation of scientists and engineers and researchers and doctors, so by getting your feet wet early, you get a lot of opportunities that you wouldn't otherwise get."
Williams went on to win the competition's top prize.
She said she's sad she can't participate next year because she's graduating, but in the meantime she's excited to hear back from Harvard and Yale.
