Southport-Fort Fisher ferry to reopen in July

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — After months of work, the Southport-Fort Fisher ferry is expected to reopen next month.

Work to repair the ferry’s aging ramp system has been sporadically happening since January.

According to a ferry spokesperson, the contractor on the ramp has been delayed by rain this month, but is on track to have the system operational by the middle of next month.

The $3 million project is to add an updated hydraulic ramp system.

This new system promises to be smoother and less prone to accidental failures.
