Spending, mudslinging up in US Senate race
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s the most expensive race in US Senate history, and the airwaves have been flooded with mudslinging from both sides. Thom Tillis and Sen. Kay Hagan are battling it out in the Tar Heel State for your vote.
Thursday Speaker Tillis and Sen. Hagan both campaigned in Wilmington, and both stuck to their traditional stump speeches. Tillis criticized Hagan for her ties to President Obama. Hagan hit Tillis on his record in Raleigh.
Tillis didn’t want to talk to reporters, but Hagan did. We asked questions, though, about the campaign’s negative turn to both of them.
“Actually our race is getting pretty positive,” Tillis said. “I’ll let the other side speak for themselves.”
“The fact that Charles and David Koch have attacked me over and over and over again for Thom Tillis is wrong,” Hagan said.
Between the two campaigns and outside groups, more than $100 million has been spent on this race.
