Spring has sprung and Wilmington is greener than ever
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — halyburton park was greener than ever this weekend as it hosted the 1st annual Green Spring Carnival.
The city of Wilmington Public Services Department joined with local businesses teaching kids the value of recycling.
The carnival had games and crafts along with live music from the broccoli brothers band.
Folks also took part in a collaborative art project, tying plastic grocery bags together then woven into a large recycling symbol.
The event also had an art contest, Noble Middle School 7th grader Mia Rose won.
Her poster will be blown up and used as artwork in the city.
Wilmington Recycling Outreach and Education intern Lisa Utsumi organized the family event. She said, “It’s really the young people that are really good about recycling and making an effort to help the environment.” She said, “I think if they feel more empowered they’ll be able to influence their parents.”
