Surf City dedicates new police department
SURF CITY — A dedication ceremony for the new Surf City Police Department drew quite a crowd this afternoon. Surf City Mayor Zander Guy introduced North Carolina's Attorney General Roy Cooper. Cooper delivered the dedication address and said the new facility shows Surf City's dedication to safety. The AG says he wants officers across to the state to know they have his support. "We want to give them the training and the technology that they need to do their jobs and to come out here," Cooper said. "It's a pretty big deal for a law enforcement agency to move into a new facility and communities should be proud of that and I wanted to come and be a part of that." Cooper joked with the crowd about being so impressed with surf city that he may consider retiring there. The police department of about 20 has been working out of the $1.8 million facility for a month.
