Surf City man killed in weather related crash

SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) — Early this morning, Surf City Police pulled a car out of canal and found a man inside.

Police say around 1:45 a.m., they responded to a call of a submerged vehicle at the end of Broadway Street.

Officers arrived and found a car that had been in the water for some time. Rescuers were able to get the car out of the canal.

Police say they found Dax Christopher Baker, 20, of Surf City, dead inside the vehicle.

Detectives believe the weather was a contributing factor in the crash.

The crash is still under investigation.
