Surf City Police Dept. installs permanent pill drop box

SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) — The Surf City Police Department has installed a permanent pill drop box so people can safely dispose of medication.

Citizens of Surf City won’t have to wait for pill take-back events to get rid of unwanted or expired medication. The box is located at the police department at 305 N. New River Drive. The $800 box was purchased with donations from two Surf City residents.

The drop box is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., you don’t need to make an appointment.

You can bring expired, unused, over-the-counter, and prescription medication in pill form. Please bring the pills in their properly marked original pharmacy or retail containers.

Items that you may NOT bring are needles, liquids, creams, aerosols, batteries, or combustible or radioactive materials.
