Surfers prove paralysis won’t keep them from the waves
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Under the sun and in the waves on Wrightsville Beach Saturday, individuals living with paralysis proved that “Life Rolls On” even after spinal cord injuries.
The event, called “They Will Surf Again,” is all about empowering paraplegics and quadriplegics to continue living life post-paralysis. Volunteers help them feel the freedom of the waves.
Will Archibald is a paraplegic who says he still has hope even after the motorcycle accident that landed him in a wheelchair.
“Just changes the way you think about sports and things you can do, you know, activities,” Archibald said. “Yeah, things aren’t going to be the same, but they can still be semi-as exciting. Just take advantage of what you can do, what’s out there, like organizations and events like this, rather than sitting at home.”
The event is free for all participants, and no prior experience is required. A beach clean-up was also part of the event to educate people on keeping our shores clean.
