Suspect arrested after firearm discharged near downtown Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A 27-year-old man was arrested after police say he discharged a firearm during a dispute near downtown Wilmington early Tuesday morning.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call around 1 a.m. reporting that a man had fired a gun in a parking lot near 15 S. Water St.

Downtown Task Force officers responded and learned a dispute had occurred between two men, during which one of them allegedly discharged a firearm.

While officers were searching the area, State Port Police notified them that a pickup truck had entered the port through a gate at a high rate of speed and struck barriers.

Police said the driver matched the description of the person involved in the downtown firearm incident.

Officers located the truck and seized two firearms, according to WPD.

Zane Williams, 27, was then arrested and charged with:

  • Second-degree trespassing
  • Discharging a firearm in a reckless manner
  • Driving while impaired
  • Reckless driving

Williams was given a $2,000 secured bond.

No injuries were reported in connection with the firearm incident.
