‘Swamp Thing’ series testing waters to film in Wilmington
WILMINGTON, NC (StarNews) — Something might be lurking in the water in the Cape Fear region and, this time, it’s not GenX.
DC Entertainment, the studio behind “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Justice League,” is adapting the comic book “Swamp Thing” into a television series and it’s testing the waters to possibly shoot in Wilmington, according to multiple sources within the local film industry. The drama series is set to debut on the company’s upcoming digital streaming service, DC Universe.
The series has not officially committed to shooting in Wilmington, but producers have reached out to local crew about their availability later in the summer, according to sources. Working in the project’s favor is one major tie to the local industry.
“Swamp Thing,” which was officially announced earlier this month, is being executive produced by James Wan, who directed the hit horror film “The Conjuring” in Wilmington in 2012. Mark Verheiden (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Daredevil” series) and Gary Dauberman (“It”) are on board to co-write and serve as showrunners on the live-action drama.
