TABOR CITY, NC (WWAY) — A federal grant is expected to help drive new economic development in Tabor City.

The town has been awarded a $900,000 Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) grant to support development of the Tabor City Railroad Industrial Park.

Officials say the funding will be used to build rail infrastructure within the industrial park, improving freight connections and capacity. The project is aimed at making Tabor City more competitive for industrial recruitment and expansion.

“I’m pleased to have secured this much-needed support for modern rail infrastructure in Tabor City, which will help drive new industry, support economic development, and encourage long-term growth in the community,” said US Rep. David Rouzer.

Town leaders say the investment will help position the community as a hub for rail-served businesses in the region.

“This is an exciting time for the Town of Tabor City,” said Town Manager Josh Ward. “This investment in our Railroad Industrial Park will provide rail infrastructure that will strengthen our ability to attract new businesses, create jobs, and support long-term economic development for our residents.”

The Tabor City Railroad Industrial Park is being designed to provide rail access for industrial users seeking efficient transportation options, with the goal of preparing the site for future tenants and investment.
