Thalian Association announces new artistic director

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) –Thalian Association Community Theatre has named Chandler Davis as artistic director.  She will start the post on June 1.

“We are absolutely thrilled that Chandler will be on our team,” said Susan Habas, Executive Director of Thalian Association Community Theatre. “Her experience, talent, management skills and energy are exceptional, and she shares our vision for what community theater should and needs to be.”

Davis replaces David Loudermilk, who was terminated from the artistic director position on May 2.

Most recently Davis served as Managing Director for City Stage Co., and previously she was the Stage Manager for Roanoke Children’s Theatre, and Music Director at Studio Roanoke.  Davis has a BA in Musical Theater and minor in Directing from Emory & Henry College in Emory, Va.

She has worked with Thalian Association Community Theatre’s youth academy and taught Musical Theater at DREAMS of Wilmington, and Musical Theater Summer Camp at TheatreNOW.  She is an inaugural member of Wilma magazine’s Women to Watch Leadership Institute.

“In the relatively short time I’ve been here, I’ve been so impressed with the commitment level and depth of our theater community,” said Davis. “Getting to help steer the creative course of the Thalians is a challenge I relish. The first Wilmington show I performed in was a Thalian production. That led to countless opportunities for me as well as the chance to develop some of the most meaningful professional and personal relationships I’ve ever known. I am very pleased and grateful to have the chance to give back to the Thalian Association. I look forward to creating an environment where artists can thrive and audiences can have a meaningful experience.”
