The Cape Fear Chapters: “The Not-So-Scary Guide To Ghosts” with Rebekah Carmichael
Wilmington, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington author and social media creator is hoping her first book will encourage readers to approach the paranormal with curiosity rather than fear.
Rebekah Carmichael, known online as “Rebekah the Ghost Guide,” appeared in the first edition of WWAY’s new “Cape Fear Chapters” segment to discuss her new book, The Not So Scary Guide to Ghosts: How to Make the Paranormal Normal, which explores paranormal experiences through storytelling and a beginner-friendly approach.
Carmichael said her journey into paranormal investigation began after moving to Wilmington in 2019 and working as a ghost tour guide downtown. She said unusual experiences and photographs shared by tour participants prompted her to post the images online and ask others for their interpretations, helping grow her social media following.
According to Carmichael, the book draws from her own experiences and is intended to provide readers with a resource for understanding unexplained events.
“If you’ve ever had one happen, you are already a part of a community who understands,” Carmichael said during the interview. She said the book combines storytelling with discussions of psychology, physics and intuition while focusing on experiences in Wilmington and across North Carolina.
Carmichael also discussed living in several historic homes in downtown Wilmington that she believes were haunted. She said those experiences helped shape her perspective that paranormal encounters are not necessarily something to fear.
“I wanted to understand,” she said. “I wanted to come about things from a more logical standpoint.”
She said that approach influenced the book’s tone and design, with the goal of making the subject more approachable for readers of different ages rather than emphasizing horror or fear.
Carmichael also announced a book launch event scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Pomegranate Books in Wilmington. The event is set to include a conversation, question-and-answer session and book signing.
