Thomas Rhodes Bridge lane closures slated next week

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Drivers can expect overnight lane closures on the Thomas Rhodes Bridge near Wilmington a couple of nights next week.

The NC Department of Transportation will intermittently close one lane in each direction on the bridge on US 17/421 over the Cape Fear River near the Battleship North Carolina, from 9 p.m., Wednesday, until 5 a.m., Thursday. The DOT says the closures are necessary for bridge inspectors to perform a one-year warranty inspection of the bridge.

The DOT says A warranty review is standard for all NCDOT contracts. For this one-year inspection of the project, inspectors and project administrators will review the quality of the project to determine if any additional work needs to be done under the warranty. This process ensures that a road or bridge will be functional for years to come.

Although there will not be any detours, motorists are still advised to use caution while traveling in the area and to expect delays.
