Three people killed, four injured in Wilmington shooting
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington police are investigating a shooting that killed three people early Saturday morning.
Just after midnight, officers were dispatched to 718 Kidder St. in reference to shots fired.
When they arrived, they discovered a gunfight had erupted inside the home during a house party and seven people were shot.
Three of the seven died. The remaining four victims are being treated at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
“Our hearts go out to all affected by this senseless violence, and we ask that anyone with information surrounding this incident please come forward so that we may find justice,” WPD wrote in a news release.
New Hanover and Pender District Attorney Ben David also commented on the violence.
“I’ve been a prosecutor for over two decades here in Wilmington,” David said. “Last night was one of the very worst nights we’ve had in this city. I can’t imagine the loss and suffering that these families are experiencing.”
“The grief that all of us feel needs to be met with that same commitment to doing justice for the victims in this case,” David said.

UPDATE (3:50 p.m.): Wilmington Police have released the names of some of the victims of this terrible shooting.
Two men are confirmed dead: Zieyah Wade, 22, and Shamir Jones, 21. A third person who died was 16 years old; because she is a juvenile, her name will not be released.
Four adults who have been confirmed to be alive: Zykeria Crawford, 19, Zymiryon Atkins, 18, Valery Orelus, 18, and Keyshawn James, 21.
All other details of this incident are still under investigation at this time.
The WPD CSI team recovered several firearms at the scene and detectives are actively investigating all leads.
Once investigators have had time to gather additional information, the Wilmington Police Department will hold a press conference (likely next week) and allow time for questions.
