Three races still tight after vote canvass
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Canvass results from last week’s election show candidates for one local race are still separated by just a few votes.
With all the votes officially counted for a District Court judgeship in New Hanover and Pender counties, Lindsey Luther beat Kent Harrell by only 13 votes. Harrell had a 17-vote lead after Election Night. He posted on his Facebook page this afternoon there will be a recount.
In the race for two seats on the New Hanover County Commission, Republican Skip Watkins remains the leading vote-getter. Democrat Rob Zapple came in second place 186 votes ahead of Republican Derrick Hickey.
Finally four Republicans were the winners for four seats on the New Hanover County School Board, but incumbent Ed Higgins beat Democrat Emma Saunders by fewer than 600 votes for the final seat.
Eligible candidates have until 5 p.m. Tuesday to ask for a recount.
