Thrift shop prepares to celebrate major milestone

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — In July of 2016, a thrift shop opened in Leland with a goal of raising money for programs that help Brunswick County students.  In July of 2017, they will be holding a special “Thank You” celebration to keep the momentum going.

The shop’s anniversary celebration will begin on July 6 and run until July 12 with special sales each day. A special celebration event will be Saturday, July 8 with 2 Bros. Coastal Cuisine food truck, a visit by the Leland fire department trucks and equipment, and afternoon cupcakes for customers, while supplies last.

“I’m going to have a little place in the store picked out for people to come up and make selfies,” manager Cathy Whitley said. “Then they will load them to our Facebook page and July 15th they’ll be judged and the winner will get a summer basket.”

CIS provides the Action for Success Dropout Prevention Program in five Brunswick County middle schools and incorporates community volunteers to support student achievement. CIS also provides community-based Parenting Education Programs, 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) afterschool programs, and Teen and Peer Court.
