Tidal Creek Co-op offers electric car charging stations

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Electric vehicle drivers can charge their battery while shopping for groceries at Tidal Creek Cooperative Food Market.

The specialty grocery store teamed up with Progress Energy Carolinas to install the charging stations across from their bio-fuel station.

“We want to lead with offering alternatives,” Tidal Creek General Manager Craig Harris said. “We’ve had people say, ‘What’s next? Is it a windmill?’ We do encourage people to bike, but fossil fuels are limited. What we can do to lengthen those options, we want to try and do that.”

The stations can charge an electric vehicle three to five times faster than a typical outlet.
