Topsail Beach breaks ground on $9.6M Public Safety Building
TOPSAIL BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Topsail Beach broke ground Thursday on a new $9.6 million Public Safety Building that will house the town’s police and fire departments.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday morning at 701 Flake Ave., with community members, local and state officials, town staff and project partners attending.
The approximately 17,400-square-foot facility is being developed as a design-build project and will provide dedicated space for the Topsail Beach Police and Fire departments.
Plans call for office and support areas for police and fire personnel, covered parking on the ground level and an apparatus bay for fire and rescue vehicles.
The town says state-allocated funding helped make the project possible and credited state Sen. Brent Jackson and state Rep. Carson Smith for their efforts in securing that funding.
Thomas Construction Group and Becker Morgan Group make up the project’s design-build team.
The town says the groundbreaking marks the beginning of construction on the facility. Topsail Beach had previously described the project as a milestone intended to support its first responders and improve community resilience.
The information released by the town did not provide an expected completion date for the project.
