Man hospitalized after head-on crash with truck on Carolina Beach Rd.

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A crash involving an 18-wheeler and a Honda Accord shut down the 2300 block of Carolina Beach Road Monday afternoon.

The call came in around 12:50, according to New Hanover County Dispatch.

Police have charged 77 year old, Arnold Marshburn of Wallace, NC with failure to maintain lane control, after he hit two cars while trying to avoid a rear-end collision.

Marshburn told police after he slammed on the brakes he veered into an adjacent lane and side-swiped one car and then crossed over into oncoming traffic and hit a Honda Accord head-on. The truck rolled onto the Honda Accord.

The driver of both cars were transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. The driver of the Honda Accord is in serious condition. The driver of the other car sustained minor injuries.

The crash was in front of Merritt’s Burger House.

Carolina Beach Road was closed between Medical Center Dr. and Southern Blvd. but both the northbound and southbound lanes have reopened.
