Traffic stop in Chadbourn leads to cocaine trafficking arrests

CHADBOURN, NC (WWAY) –A routine traffic stop in the Town of Chadbourn led to the arrest of two individuals facing multiple drug-related charges, according to authorities.
The stop occurred on April 16, 2026, when officers pulled over a Chevrolet Silverado for a window tint violation. During the encounter, a K-9 unit with the Chadbourn Police Department conducted an open-air sniff around the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics.
That alert provided probable cause for a search, during which detectives with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Vice Narcotics Unit reportedly discovered a trafficking quantity of cocaine.
Two individuals — identified as Jeffery Collins and Carl McMillian — were taken into custody at the scene.
Collins faces several charges, including trafficking in cocaine, two counts of conspiracy to traffic cocaine, obstructing justice, obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or forgery, obtaining property by false pretenses, and altering or destroying criminal evidence.
McMillian has been charged with trafficking in cocaine, two counts of conspiracy to traffic cocaine, maintaining a place for controlled substances, and a window tint violation.
Authorities said the arrests were the result of a coordinated effort between local and county law enforcement agencies. The case remains part of ongoing efforts to address illegal drug activity in the region.
