Travelers get high shine and Seahawk pride at ILM

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW school spirit is soaring at Wilmington International Airport.

Shoeshiner Anthony Nixon is now sporting some Seahawk pride. UNCW Chancellor Gary Miller replaced nixon’s UNC Tar Heels apron with a UNCW Seahawk one, letting travelers know Seahawk spirit exists everywhere.

Nixon says he’s proud to promote the school.

“I loved it,” Nixon said. “I mean I’m a native of Wilmington. and UNCW’s my native university, so I’m supporting them 100 percent.”

Nixon says his Seahawk apron acts as a conversation piece among locals and visitors, making his job more enjoyable experience.

The new apron is part of UNCW’s effort to “Paint the Town Teal.”
