Tree removals, pruning planned along Northern Boulevard in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The City of Wilmington is preparing for a major tree maintenance project along Northern Boulevard that will include pruning and the removal of some severely decayed trees.

City crews are scheduled to begin work the week of Sept. 28 along Northern Boulevard between Carolina Beach Road and Burnett Boulevard.

Crews will prune trees to provide clearance for streets and sidewalks and reduce the risk of falling limbs.

The city says some trees will also have to be removed because of severe decay.

Work will be completed one block at a time, with each block closed only while crews are working in that area. Parking will not be allowed on affected blocks during the work.

Ahead of the project, the city will hold an “Ask an Arborist” event at noon Thursday, Sept. 24.

The public is invited to meet at 301 Northern Boulevard to learn more about the project, ask questions and see some of the trees the city says must be removed because of decay.
